- Inspirerend
Ik had verwacht een boek te lezen over de levenslessen van mensen die op het sterfbed liggen, waarbij deze mensen zelf vooral aan het woord komen. Dat is maar ten dele zo. Het boek gaat vooral over de schrijfster, over het leven dat zij heeft geleefd, de lessen die zij daaruit trok, over de relatie die zij had met uiteenlopende mensen in hun laatste dagen, en wat over zij haar hebben verteld. Alleen op dat laatste zat ik te wachten. Helaas zijn dat betrekkelijk korte passages, want al snel legt de schrijfster het verband met haar eigen leven en gaat daar weer op door. De lessen die worden getrokken, zijn sterk geïnspireerd op haar eigen "oosterse" levenshouding. De inhoud appelleert meer aan emotie dan aan analyse. Het zal veel lezers liggen, maar mij niet echt.

Great book when you're in a period of your life when you need to reflect on all that's happend and you're wondering where your path will lead you. This book gives you an account of lessons learnt by former (dying) patients of the writer. Take a sneakpeak at what may lie ahead when you keep on going without any reflection or consideration of your own needs. It sure got me thinking about what's important for me. It's the first book of Bronnie Ware so the language used is pretty simple and easy to read. Even when you're not a native english speaker. For the dutchies: Bijzonder boek wanneer je behoefte hebt aan wat reflectie en bespiegeling in je leven. Met dit boek kun je je voordeel doen uit de lessen die inmiddels overleden patiënten van de schrijfster hebben geleerd op hun sterfbed. Klinkt als zware kost maar valt erg mee. Eenvoudig taalgebruik en luchtige anekdotes houden het boek goed leesbaar. Het engels is ook vrij eenvoudig, voor wie liever in de originele taal leest.
