In each chapter he also takes a step back to look at the bigger issues which lie behind a continent’s death-wish, answering the question of why anyone, let alone an entire civilisation, would do this to themselves?

He ends with two visions of Europe – one hopeful, one pessimistic – which paint a picture of Europe in crisis and offer a choice as to what, if anything, we can do next.

Echt een meesterlijk geschreven boek, waarin alle feiten en getuigenissen op tafel gelegd worden. Van onze geschiedenis, tot aan interview met vluchtelingen in Lesbos. Een keiharde klap in het gezicht met de realiteit waarin we vandaag beland zijn, die iedere Europeaan zijn of haar standpunten doet hervormen.

Het boek van Douglas Murray beschrijft de tijdsgeest waarin massa immigratie en islamisering plaatsvinden in Europa. Het geeft een ontluisterend beeld van de Europese politieke klasse en laat duidelijk zien dat deze politieke klasse een ideologie aanhangt die impliceert dat Europa - en bij extensie het hele Westen - een plek moet zijn waar de 'hele' wereld zich moet kunnen vestigen en zich thuis moet kunnen voelen. Murray laat goed zien dat de multiculturele ideologie een typisch Westers (elite) fenomeen is welke nergens anders ter wereld wordt aangehangen. Murray's boek is dan ook een beschrijving van de zelfdestructie van de Westerling en vandaar ook de treffende titel van het boek, "The Strange Death of Europe".

Dit is een ontzettend belangrijk boek voor iedereen die de huidige problematiek in Europa wil begrijpen. Het schetst een donker beeld en een niet zo florissante toekomst voor ons continent. Murray legt uitstekend uit hoe het komt dat Europa is veranderd en legt de zwaktes in het huidige politieke beleid pijnlijk bloot. Hij biedt geen kant-en-klare oplossingen, maar de beschreven ontwikkelingen en achtergronden zijn essentieel voor het vormen van die oplossingen.
