Old Made New- Gathering Gold by Moonlight 30 Prayers and Devotions for Dark Hours

Gathering Gold by Moonlight offers thirty devotions for seasons of darkness. Irene Sun weaves Amy Carmichael’s prayers with biblical reflections, helping readers find God’s presence, comfort, and courage when faith is tested.

Gold may be gathered even by the light of the moon. In these 30 devotions, Irene Sun gives light to pilgrims stuck in seasons of deep darkness through the prayers and letters of the missionary Amy Carmichael.

Gold represents things that last forever, and according to Amy Carmichael, it can be found even by the light of the moon for those who are seeking God with all their hearts. Through Carmichael’s poetic prayers, personal stories, and biblical meditations, Gathering Gold by Moonlight encourages readers to seek God’s presence in both the ordinary and the overwhelming, offering comfort and spiritual companionship for those walking through their own “moonlit” nights.

Sun weaves Carmichael’s classic prayers with her own contemporary reflections, inviting readers into a journey of prayer for life’s hardest moments—when words fail, hope is dim, and faith is tested. Each devotion gives readers a beautiful tapestry of comfort and courage for whatever they are facing.

Drawing on Carmichael’s experiences as a missionary and mother to hundreds of children in India, the devotions explore perseverance, humility, suffering, and the beauty of a crucified life. Sun also offers practical spiritual guidance for struggles such as doubt, fear, loss, anger, and waiting. Part of the Old Made New series, Gathering Gold by Moonlight makes the prayers and spiritual wisdom of those who have left us a rich heritage of faith accessible to modern-day readers.
